From the Chair: As those of you receiving emails will have noticed several times in the past month we sent out messages about courses coming up that still have spaces available and other information. The response to these has been very good with the result that several courses have been over subscribed and voluntary tutors found. To those of you who responded to the messages, thank you, it is great to get the feedback we did. We will certainly do more of the single topic message in the future but if you regard them as a nuisance in your inbox please let me know via a reply to this newsletter and I will make sure you don't get them. If you replied asking to be enrolled in a course you may have informed that you are on a waiting list for further courses. We will do our best to slot you into a course coming up but if you do not get confirmation by the end of the month let me know. The USB drives with the seniornet logo organised by the Federation have arrived and been distributed to those ordering them and we have been informed that the Federation is holding further stocks, so if you would like one or more in the future check out the Seniornet website at http:// www.seniornet.org.nz The clothing items have not yet arrived. This months meeting: The meeting this month will be on Friday 15th august in the Arthritis room next door to the learning centre in the Departmental building at 1.30pm. Ian Harrowfield will talk about his involvement with computers and how pharmacists use them today. Of course there will be a chance to ask about any techniques or problems you have with your computer. The Monthly Meeting: The topic for the July meeting was "Home Movie Making" and the presentation was given by one of our members, Graham Adam. Firstly, Graham stressed that you do not need a movie camera to make a movie. Most digital cameras have the capability to take short movie clips and these can be "stitched" together using Microsoft Movie Maker, a programme that comes as a part of the Windows operating system. The programme can be accessed by going to Start > All Programmes > Accessories > Windows Movie Maker. Not only will this programme join the short clips, but it will also allow you to add still photos. Once the video content is complete you can add music and titles to give the movie a more professional look. You can find all the "how to" information on these techniques on the internet; just connect and search for "Windows Movie Maker tutorials". Need some practical help with setting your digital cameras to take movies? Why not join the Camera Interest Group that meets on the fourth Friday of the month. Word Tip: We all know that when we select text, then Copy, the selected text is placed on the Clipboard. In earlier versions of Word the clipboard held only one entry at a time, but the newer versions will hold up to 24 entries. These may be copied from any almost any source. For example, you can copy some text from a Microsoft Word document, some data from Microsoft Excel, a bulleted list from Microsoft PowerPoint, some text from Microsoft FrontPage or Microsoft Internet Explorer and a datasheet from Microsoft Access, then switch back to Word and arrange any or all of the collected items in your Word document. To display the contents of the Clipboard select Edit > Office Clipboard, (or Ctrl+C twice). Either of these will open the Clipboard task pane with the contents listed. To Paste an item into your document, first position the Insertion Point where you want the item to be inserted, then click on the appropriate Clipboard entry and it will be Pasted into your document. Below is the course schedule for September. There are no spaces in card making and several others are nearly full .. How to enrol for a course The new method of enrolling for courses is in place and working well, you can enrol: " At any time on the computers at the learning centre, click the yellow smiley face with the mortar board. " By leaving a form at the learning centre " By emailing the office computer at seniornet.wai@gmail.com " Through the website at http://www.waisenior.orconhosting.net.nz/ In Lighter Vein: ( from Barbara Udy) A Blonde goes to Bed Bath & Beyond to buy curtains. She tells the clerk, 'I would like to buy a pair of pink curtains. 'The clerk assures her that they have a large selection of pink curtains. She shows her several patterns but the blonde seems to be having a hard time choosing. Finally she selects a lovely pink floral print. The clerk then asks what size curtains she needs. The blonde promptly replies, 'Seventeen inches.' 'Seventeen inches?' asked the clerk. 'That sounds very small. What room are they for?' The blonde says, 'They aren't for a room. They are for my new computer monitor. 'The surprised clerk replies, 'But Miss, computers do not need curtains!' The blonde says, 'Hellllooooooooo ... I've got Windoooooows.......
